ELECTROLUMINESCENT DISPLAY APPARATUS AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240221657 titled 'ELECTROLUMINESCENT DISPLAY APPARATUS AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation:

An electroluminescent display apparatus with a controller that adjusts image data to compensate for stress on light emitting devices in pixels.

  • The display panel has pixels with light emitting devices.
  • The controller receives input image data for a pixel, calculates accumulated stress on the light emitting device, and determines a compensation gain.
  • It then calculates a target compensation gain based on stress data and limits, and outputs corrected image data for driving the pixel.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Stress compensation for light emitting devices in pixels.
  • Target compensation gain calculation based on stress data and limits.
  • Correction of input image data for driving pixels.

Potential Applications:

This technology could be used in various display applications such as televisions, monitors, and signage.

Problems Solved:

This technology addresses issues related to stress on light emitting devices in display pixels, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

Benefits:

  • Improved display quality and longevity.
  • Enhanced performance of electroluminescent displays.
  • Reduction of stress-related damage to light emitting devices.

Commercial Applications:

Original Abstract Submitted

an electroluminescent display apparatus may include a display panel including a plurality of pixels, each of the pixels including a light emitting device, and a controller. the controller may be configured to receive an input image data for a corresponding pixel among the pixels, determine accumulated stress data applied to the light emitting device in the corresponding pixel due to an accumulation of image implemented in the corresponding pixel while being driven, determine a stress compensation gain corresponding to the accumulated stress data, determine a target compensation gain based on the stress compensation gain and at least one of a lower limit compensation gain and an upper limit compensation gain, and output a corrected input image data based on the input image data and the target compensation gain for driving the corresponding pixel.
