Organic Light Emitting Diode - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240206330 titled 'Organic Light Emitting Diode

The present disclosure pertains to an organic light emitting diode (OLED) with adjacent emitting material layers containing hosts with different lumo energy levels and/or electron mobility. A first emitting material layer with a host having slow electron mobility and/or high lumo energy level is placed next to a hole transport layer, while a second emitting material layer with a host having fast electron mobility and/or low lumo energy level is positioned adjacent to an electron transport layer. By preventing exciplex formation between the hole transporting material and the first host, and promoting exciplex formation between the hole transporting material and the second host, the OLED can minimize exciton loss, resulting in low driving voltage, low power consumption, and improved luminous properties and lifetime.

  • First emitting material layer with host of slow electron mobility and/or high lumo energy level next to hole transport layer
  • Second emitting material layer with host of fast electron mobility and/or low lumo energy level adjacent to electron transport layer
  • Exciplex formation prevented between hole transporting material and first host, promoted between hole transporting material and second host
  • Minimized exciton loss leading to low driving voltage, low power consumption, and enhanced luminous properties and lifetime
  • Improved OLED and organic light emitting device performance

Potential Applications: - Display technologies - Lighting applications - Consumer electronics

Problems Solved: - Minimized exciton loss - Reduced power consumption - Enhanced luminous properties and lifetime

Benefits: - Low driving voltage - Low power consumption - Improved luminous properties - Extended luminous lifetime

Commercial Applications: Organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays, lighting solutions, consumer electronics

  - The use of hosts with different lumo energy levels and electron mobility levels can help minimize exciton loss, leading to improved OLED performance.

2. What are the potential applications of OLED technology beyond display and lighting solutions?

  - OLED technology can also be applied in areas such as healthcare, automotive, and signage for innovative lighting and display solutions.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present disclosure relates to an organic light emitting diode (oled) where adjacent emitting material layers includes hosts with different lumo energy level and/or electron mobility. a first emitting material layer including a first host with relatively slow electron mobility and/or relatively high lumo energy level is disposed adjacently to a hole transport layer and a second emitting material layer including a second host with relatively fast electron mobility and/or relatively low lumo energy level is disposed adjacent to an electron transport layer. no exciplex between hole transporting material and the first host is not formed while exciplex between the hole transporting material and the second host is formed so that exciton loss can be minimized. an oled and an organic light emitting device with low driving voltage and low power consumption and beneficial luminous property and luminous lifetime can be realized.
