various aspects of the present disclosure relate to buffer status reporting for extended reality service. an apparatus is configured to receive an indication of whether a first buffer status report (“bsr”) format is usable. in response to the indication indicating that the first bsr format is usable, determine a buffer size based on a first table that comprises buffer size levels corresponding to a first buffer size field. in response to the indication indicating that the first bsr format is not usable, determine the buffer size based on a second table that comprises buffer size levels corresponding to a second buffer size field, and transmit the bsr.
