WRONG WAY DRIVING DETECTION AND AMELIORATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240290207 titled 'WRONG WAY DRIVING DETECTION AND AMELIORATION

The abstract describes a method, computer system, and computer program product for detecting wrong way driving using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and performing corrective actions.

  • Monitoring indications of wrong way traversal using IoT sensors
  • Determining wrong way traversal based on a risk assessment value meeting a threshold
  • Performing corrective actions to address wrong way traversal

Potential Applications: - Enhancing road safety by detecting and preventing wrong way driving incidents - Improving traffic management systems by identifying and addressing dangerous driving behaviors

Problems Solved: - Reducing the risk of accidents caused by wrong way driving - Enhancing overall road safety for drivers and pedestrians

Benefits: - Minimizing the likelihood of collisions and accidents - Enhancing the efficiency of traffic flow and management

Commercial Applications: Title: "IoT-Based Wrong Way Driving Detection System" This technology can be utilized by transportation authorities, fleet management companies, and automotive manufacturers to enhance road safety and prevent accidents caused by wrong way driving.

Questions about Wrong Way Driving Detection: 1. How does this technology contribute to overall road safety?

  - This technology helps in detecting and preventing wrong way driving incidents, reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing road safety.

2. What are the potential implications of implementing this system in smart cities?

  - Implementing this system in smart cities can significantly improve traffic management and reduce the occurrence of wrong way driving incidents.

Original Abstract Submitted

according to one embodiment, a method, computer system, and computer program product for wrong way driving detection is provided. the embodiment may include monitoring indications of wrong way traversal along a traversal path through one or more on-board, internet of things (iot) sensors. the embodiment may also include determining whether wrong way traversal of the traversal path is occurring based on a risk assessment value satisfying a preconfigured threshold. the embodiment may further include, in response to determining the risk assessment value satisfies the preconfigured threshold, performing a corrective action to ameliorate the wrong way traversal.
