Packet Processing Method, Network Interface Card, and Server - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240223683 titled 'Packet Processing Method, Network Interface Card, and Server

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a method performed by a network interface card of a computer device where the card receives a packet, determines its type, and performs a bypass processing operation on the packet based on its type, bypassing the kernel.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Network interface card performs bypass processing on packets based on their type.
  • Part of the packet is not processed by the kernel.
  • Helps in bypassing a bloated kernel.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various networking and data processing systems where efficient packet processing is required.

Problems Solved:

  • Reduces processing load on the kernel.
  • Improves overall system performance by bypassing unnecessary processing.

Benefits:

  • Faster packet processing.
  • Enhanced system efficiency.
  • Reduced strain on the kernel.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include networking equipment, data centers, and communication systems where efficient packet processing is crucial for performance.

Prior Art: Readers can start their search for prior art related to this technology by looking into patents or research papers on network interface card optimization and packet processing efficiency.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on research related to network interface card optimization, packet processing efficiency, and kernel bypass techniques for improved system performance.

Questions about Network Interface Card Bypass Processing: 1. How does bypass processing on packets improve system performance? 2. What are the potential drawbacks of bypassing the kernel for packet processing?

Original Abstract Submitted

a method is performed by a network interface card of a computer device. in the method, the network interface card receives a first packet, determines a type of the first packet, and performs a first bypass processing operation on the first packet based on the type of the first packet. therefore, a part of a packet is not processed by a kernel. in other words, processing of a part of packets bypasses a bloated kernel.
