an apparatus for generating a bitstream representing input frames of a video sequence, is provided. the apparatus includes a processing circuitry configured to generate the bitstream including a synthesized frame at a first position of a first input frame based on two or more input frames. a quality measure for the synthesized frame is determined. based on determining that the quality measure fulfills a predetermined condition, an indication of the first position is included into a bitstream portion, and based on determining that the quality measure does not fulfill the predetermined condition, content of the first input frame is encoded into the bitstream portion.
