NDPA FRAME TRANSMISSION METHOD AND RELATED APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240195552 titled 'NDPA FRAME TRANSMISSION METHOD AND RELATED APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

This patent application pertains to a method and apparatus for transmitting NDPA frames in a wireless local area network supporting 802.11.

  • A beamformer generates and sends a universal NDPA frame with specific fields set to different values to prevent misreading by older versions of stations.
  • The method includes setting the NDPA variant field to specific values and including AID 11 or disambiguation bits in the frame.
  • The AID 11 value determines whether it is in the station information field or extended common field, with the disambiguation bit forcibly set to 1.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Generation and transmission of universal NDPA frames with specific field values.
  • Inclusion of AID 11 and disambiguation bits in the frame to prevent misreading by older stations.
  • Differentiation between AID 11 values in station information field and extended common field.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various wireless local area network environments where compatibility with older station versions is required.

Problems Solved

  • Prevents misreading of NDPA frames by older station versions.
  • Ensures compatibility and proper communication in mixed-version network environments.

Benefits

  • Improved network communication reliability.
  • Enhanced compatibility with older station versions.
  • Efficient utilization of wireless network resources.

Commercial Applications

  • This technology can be utilized in enterprise wireless networks, public Wi-Fi hotspots, and IoT deployments to ensure seamless communication across different station versions.

Questions about NDPA Frame Transmission

How does the inclusion of AID 11 and disambiguation bits in the NDPA frame prevent misreading by older station versions?

The AID 11 value and disambiguation bits are strategically set in the frame to differentiate between station information and extended common fields, ensuring proper interpretation by different station versions.

What are the key benefits of using universal NDPA frames in wireless local area networks?

Universal NDPA frames improve network communication reliability, enhance compatibility with older station versions, and optimize resource utilization in mixed-version network environments.

Original Abstract Submitted

this application is applied to a wireless local area network supporting 802.11, to an ndpa frame transmission method and apparatus. the method includes: a beamformer (for example, an ap) generates and sends a universal ndpa frame, where an ndpa variant field (namely, b0 and b1 in a sounding dialog token field) included in the universal ndpa frame is set to any one of 00, 01, 10, and 11, and every two octets following the sounding dialog token field in the universal ndpa frame include one aid 11 or one disambiguation bit. if the aid 11 is in a station information field, the aid 11 is less than or equal to 2007; or if the aid 11 is in an extended common field, the aid 11 is greater than 2007. the disambiguation bit is forcibly set to 1. embodiments of this application prevent an sta of an earlier version from misreading.
