PACKET PROCESSING METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240106748 titled 'PACKET PROCESSING METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a method and apparatus for packet processing in a network system. The method involves modifying the encapsulation format of a packet received in an SR encapsulation format, encapsulating an IP header in the packet in an outer layer of an SR header, and forwarding the modified packet to a service function (SF). The packet retains the SR header as it is forwarded from the service function forwarder (SFF) to the SF, allowing the SFF to restore the original SR encapsulation format when the packet is returned from the SF.
- The method involves modifying the encapsulation format of a packet received in an SR encapsulation format.
- An IP header is encapsulated in the packet in an outer layer of an SR header.
- The modified packet is sent to a service function (SF).
- The packet retains the SR header as it is forwarded from the service function forwarder (SFF) to the SF.
- The SFF can restore the original SR encapsulation format using the SR header carried in the packet.

Original Abstract Submitted
a packet processing method and apparatus, and system. when receiving a packet in an sr encapsulation format, an sff modifies the encapsulation format of the packet, encapsulates an ip header in the packet in an outer layer of an sr header, and sends a modified packet to an sf. in a process in which the packet is forwarded from the sff to the sf, the packet still carries the sr header. therefore, when the packet is subsequently returned from the sf to the sff, the sff can restore the original sr encapsulation format by using the sr header carried in the packet.
