POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240297511 titled 'POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a power supply system that includes a battery pack with a solid-state battery cell and a restraining member, along with a battery control device that manages the charging and discharging of the battery pack.

  • The restraining member compresses during charging due to the expansion of the solid-state battery cell, increasing surface pressure on the cell.
  • Conversely, the restraining member restores during discharge as the battery cell contracts, decreasing surface pressure.
  • The battery control device limits the output opening rate of the battery pack when the pack's temperature is at or above a specified control start temperature, which is determined based on the battery pack's usage state and battery state.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Inclusion of a restraining member to manage surface pressure on the solid-state battery cell.
  • Control of output opening rate based on battery pack temperature and usage state.
  • Optimization of control start temperature for efficient battery management.

Potential Applications:

This technology could be applied in various portable electronic devices, electric vehicles, and renewable energy storage systems.

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient management of surface pressure on solid-state battery cells.
  • Enhanced control over battery pack output opening rate.
  • Improved battery performance and longevity.

Benefits:

  • Increased safety and stability during battery charging and discharging.
  • Enhanced battery efficiency and lifespan.
  • Customizable control parameters for different battery pack applications.

Commercial Applications:

Potential commercial applications include battery management systems for electric vehicles, portable electronic devices, and renewable energy storage solutions.

Questions about the Technology:

1. How does the restraining member impact the performance of the solid-state battery cell? 2. What are the specific factors considered in determining the control start temperature for the battery pack?

Stay updated on the latest advancements in solid-state battery technology and battery management systems to enhance the efficiency and performance of power supply systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

a power supply system includes a battery pack including a solid-state battery cell and a restraining member, and a battery control device which controls power on charge and discharge of the battery pack. during a charge of the battery pack, the restraining member is compressed due to expansion of the solid-state battery cell, and a surface pressure applied to the solid-state battery cell is increased. during a discharge of the battery pack, the restraining member is restored due to contraction of the solid-state battery cell, and the surface pressure is decreased. the battery control device performs control to limit an output opening rate of the battery pack in a case where a temperature of the battery pack is equal to or higher than a control start temperature, and sets the control start temperature based on a usage state of the battery pack and a battery state of the battery pack.
