SOLID-STATE BATTERY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240213525 titled 'SOLID-STATE BATTERY

The patent application describes a solid-state battery with a unique electrode laminate structure and insulating frame design.

  • Electrode laminate includes negative electrode mixture layer, solid electrolyte layer, and positive electrode mixture layer sequentially laminated over negative electrode current collector.
  • Positive electrode current collector and insulating frame provided along outer periphery of positive electrode layers.
  • Solid electrolyte layer divided into first region inside insulating frame and second region outside insulating frame.
  • Second region extends beyond outer edge of first region when viewed from above.

Potential Applications: - Energy storage for electric vehicles - Portable electronic devices - Renewable energy storage systems

Problems Solved: - Enhanced safety due to solid-state design - Improved energy density and performance

Benefits: - Longer battery life - Faster charging capabilities - Reduced risk of thermal runaway

Commercial Applications: Title: "Innovative Solid-State Battery Technology for Next-Generation Devices" This technology can revolutionize the battery industry by offering safer and more efficient energy storage solutions for a wide range of applications, from consumer electronics to electric vehicles.

Questions about Solid-State Battery Technology: 1. How does the insulating frame contribute to the overall performance of the battery? The insulating frame helps prevent short circuits and improves the overall safety of the battery by separating the positive electrode layers from the rest of the structure. 2. What are the key advantages of using a solid-state electrolyte in this battery design? Solid-state electrolytes offer higher energy density, improved stability, and enhanced safety compared to traditional liquid electrolytes.

Original Abstract Submitted

provided is a solid-state battery including: an electrode laminate in which a negative electrode mixture layer, a solid electrolyte layer, and a positive electrode mixture layer are sequentially laminated over a negative electrode current collector; a positive electrode current collector; an insulating frame provided along an outer periphery of the positive electrode mixture layer and an outer periphery of the positive electrode current collector; and a positive electrode tab. in a cross section parallel to a laminating direction of the electrode laminate and perpendicular to a direction in which the positive electrode tab extends, the solid electrolyte layer has a first region disposed inside the insulating frame and a second region disposed outside the insulating frame, and when the solid-state battery is viewed from above, an outer peripheral edge of the second region is located outside an outer peripheral edge of the first region.
