Display Method and Electronic Device - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240249484 titled 'Display Method and Electronic Device

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes an electronic device that uses augmented reality to display virtual objects in the real world captured by a camera. Users can block out real objects and project virtual objects onto them.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Displaying virtual objects in the real world using augmented reality technology.
  • Allowing users to block out real objects in the viewfinder picture.
  • Projecting three-dimensional representations of virtual objects onto the blocked out areas.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in gaming, education, interior design, and virtual try-on experiences in the retail industry.

Problems Solved: This technology solves the problem of seamlessly integrating virtual objects into the real world environment captured by a camera.

Benefits:

  • Enhances user experience by blending virtual and real worlds.
  • Provides interactive and immersive experiences.
  • Allows for creative and innovative applications in various industries.

Commercial Applications: Augmented reality advertising, virtual home staging for real estate, interactive museum exhibits, and virtual fashion shows are potential commercial applications of this technology.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include patents or research on augmented reality applications, virtual object projection, and camera-based AR interfaces.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in augmented reality technology, computer vision, and virtual object manipulation for potential improvements or new applications of this technology.

Questions about Augmented Reality Technology: 1. How does this technology impact user engagement and interaction with virtual objects in the real world? 2. What are the challenges in accurately detecting and blocking out real objects in the viewfinder picture for seamless projection of virtual objects?

Original Abstract Submitted

an electronic device may display, by using a viewfinder picture in an augmented reality (ar) application interface, an object that is in the real world in which a user is located and that is collected by a camera. the user may enable, by performing an operation, the ar application to generate a mask in an area in which a first object is located in the viewfinder picture to block the first object. then, a three-dimensional representation of a second object is projected onto the mask, where the second object is in a field of view range of the area in which the first object is located.
