Evaluating IP Location On A Client Device - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240224223 titled 'Evaluating IP Location On A Client Device

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a technology that evaluates a client device query to estimate the location of a mobile device based on its IP address. It then selects candidate wireless stations and generates a location-relevant response to the query. The mobile device compares the received information about the candidate wireless stations with its actual wireless stations, generating anonymized log information that is transmitted to the network for validation.

  • Identifying estimated location of a mobile device based on IP address
  • Selecting candidate wireless stations for location estimation
  • Generating location-relevant response to client device query
  • Comparing candidate wireless stations with actual stations on mobile device
  • Transmitting anonymized log information for validation

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in location-based services, mobile advertising, targeted marketing, and network optimization.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the challenge of accurately estimating the location of a mobile device based on its IP address and improving the relevance of location-based responses to client queries.

Benefits: The technology provides more accurate location estimation, enhances user experience with location-based services, and improves the efficiency of network communication.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include location-based advertising, targeted marketing campaigns, network optimization for mobile carriers, and enhanced location-based services for users.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include patents or research on IP-based location estimation, wireless station selection algorithms, and network communication optimization.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers may be conducting studies on improving the accuracy of IP-based location estimation, enhancing the security of transmitting log information, and optimizing network communication protocols for mobile devices.

Questions about Location-Based Technology: 1. How does this technology ensure the privacy and security of user data during the location estimation process? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology on a large scale for mobile networks?

Original Abstract Submitted

aspects of the technology evaluate a client device query to identify an ip address-based estimated location of a mobile device (). one or more candidate wireless stations are selected in accordance with the ip-based estimated location and a location-relevant response to the query is also generated in accordance with the ip-based location. this information is transmitted to the mobile device. (). the mobile device compares the received information about the candidate wireless stations against one or more actual wireless stations with which the mobile device is in communication (). log information is generated as a result of the comparison. the log information is anonymized and transmitted to the network without user id or other client-identifiable information included in the log. (fig. ) the received log information is then used to validate the initial estimated location. aggregation of log information from multiple devices may be used in the validation process. (fig. ).
