LAUNCHING COPIES OF INSTALLATION SOFTWARE THAT ROLLS BACK AGENT UPDATES WHEN CLUSTER UPDATES FAIL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240289229 titled 'LAUNCHING COPIES OF INSTALLATION SOFTWARE THAT ROLLS BACK AGENT UPDATES WHEN CLUSTER UPDATES FAIL

Simplified Explanation: The system described in the patent application allows for the selection of application hosts that meet update requirements, downloads updates for corresponding application agents, puts selected hosts in maintenance mode during the update process, and rolls back updates if necessary.

  • **Selection of Application Hosts**: The system identifies and selects application hosts that meet the update requirements.
  • **Download and Installation of Updates**: Updates for instances of application agents on selected hosts are downloaded and installed.
  • **Maintenance Mode**: Selected hosts are placed in maintenance mode to prevent them from executing operations until the update process is complete.
  • **Rollback Mechanism**: If updates fail to install on any instances of application agents, the system rolls back the updates to their previous state.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various industries where updating software across multiple hosts is necessary, such as cloud computing, network management, and software development.

Problems Solved: The system addresses the challenge of efficiently updating software across multiple application hosts while ensuring that the update process is seamless and reliable.

Benefits: - Streamlined update process for application hosts - Reduced downtime during updates - Automatic rollback mechanism for failed updates

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized by cloud service providers, software companies, and IT departments to manage and update software across a large number of hosts efficiently.

Prior Art: Researchers and developers interested in this technology may explore existing patents related to software update mechanisms, cluster management, and rollback procedures in distributed systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay informed about advancements in software update technologies, cluster management systems, and automated rollback mechanisms in distributed computing environments.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the system ensure the successful installation of updates on all instances of application agents? 2. What measures are in place to handle potential failures during the update process?

Original Abstract Submitted

system enables selection of application hosts which meet update requirements, then downloads update for instances of application agent corresponding to selected application hosts. system puts selected application hosts in maintenance mode, which prevents selected application hosts from beginning execution of any operations, until updating selected application hosts is completed. system creates copy of instructions, which when executed, installs update in instance of application agent in one of application hosts, and reports on update process to server which communicates with application hosts. system launches worker process from copy of instructions. system initiates update sessions which install update in instances of application agent corresponding to selected application hosts. if update sessions failed to install update in any of instances of application agent in cluster of application hosts, system rolls back update for updated instances of application agents in cluster of application hosts to previous conditions of instances of application agents.
