PORTABLE INFORMATION HANDLING SYSTEM DISPLAY HAVING A MAGNETICALLY ATTACHED CAMERA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240259657 titled 'PORTABLE INFORMATION HANDLING SYSTEM DISPLAY HAVING A MAGNETICALLY ATTACHED CAMERA

Simplified Explanation: A portable information handling system with an integrated display magnetically couples a peripheral camera to the display using a ferromagnetic material behind only a small portion of the display.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Integration of a peripheral camera with an integrated display using a ferromagnetic material.
  • Ferromagnetic plate or opposing polarity magnet attracts the peripheral camera through the display and housing.
  • Utilization of microphones from both the peripheral camera and the information handling system for audio capture.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in portable devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones to easily attach peripheral cameras for enhanced functionality.

Problems Solved: This innovation solves the problem of securely attaching peripheral cameras to integrated displays without the need for complex mounting mechanisms.

Benefits:

  • Simplifies the process of connecting peripheral cameras to information handling systems.
  • Provides a secure and stable attachment for peripheral cameras.
  • Enhances the functionality of portable devices by enabling the use of external cameras.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized in the development of portable devices for various industries such as photography, video conferencing, and security.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior art related to magnetic coupling of devices in portable systems, as well as advancements in peripheral camera technology.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on the latest research and developments in magnetic coupling technologies for portable devices.

Questions about Magnetic Coupling Technology: 1. How does magnetic coupling technology improve the usability of portable devices? 2. What are the potential limitations of using ferromagnetic materials for device coupling?

Original Abstract Submitted

a portable information handling system having an integrated display magnetically couples a peripheral camera to the integrated display with a ferromagnetic material disposed behind only a portion of the display, such as less than 10 percent of the integrated display area. in one embodiment, a ferromagnetic plate is disposed in the housing behind the display, the plate only a fractional area of the display. in another embodiment, a ferromagnetic material, such as an opposing polarity magnet of substantially the same circumference as the peripheral camera, is disposed behind the display and housing to attract the peripheral camera through both the display and housing. when the peripheral camera is detected at the display, one or both of the peripheral camera microphone and an integrated microphone of the information handling system are used to capture audio.
