ELECTROMECHANICAL CONNECTORS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240214735 titled 'ELECTROMECHANICAL CONNECTORS

Simplified Explanation: The circuitry described in the patent application can detect the type of accessory connected to a jack port based on the presence of an audio signal at specific points on the jack plug.

  • The circuitry determines if an audio signal is present at the tip or the ring of the jack plug.
  • If an audio signal is detected at the tip or the ring, the circuitry identifies the accessory as a stereo line-in accessory connected to a 3-pole jack plug.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Detection of accessory type based on audio signal presence at specific points on the jack plug.
  • Ability to differentiate between different types of accessories connected to the jack port.
  • Configured to identify stereo line-in accessories connected to a 3-pole jack plug.

Potential Applications: The technology can be used in various audio devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and audio equipment to automatically detect the type of accessory connected.

Problems Solved:

  • Eliminates the need for manual identification of accessories connected to the jack port.
  • Ensures compatibility between the device and the accessory by automatically recognizing the type of accessory.

Benefits:

  • Streamlines the user experience by automatically detecting the accessory type.
  • Reduces the risk of incorrect accessory connections that could damage the device.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be implemented in consumer electronics, audio equipment, and automotive audio systems to enhance user convenience and device protection.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the circuitry differentiate between different types of accessories based on the audio signal? 2. What are the potential limitations of this technology in detecting accessory types accurately?

Original Abstract Submitted

in an example there is provided circuitry for detecting a type of accessory connected to a first jack plug inserted into a first jack port. the circuitry is configured to determine whether an audio signal is present at the tip or the ring of the first jack plug. if there is an audio signal present at the tip or the ring of the first jack plug, then the circuitry is configured to determine that the type of accessory is a stereo line-in accessory connected to a 3-pole jack plug.
