RADIATION DETECTOR AND RADIATION IMAGING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240310537 titled 'RADIATION DETECTOR AND RADIATION IMAGING SYSTEM

The abstract describes a radiation detector with a semiconductor layer containing a detection region and a peripheral region. It also includes a first support member supporting part of the peripheral region on the surface of the semiconductor layer, and a second support member supporting part of the first support member from the opposite side of the semiconductor layer. The distance between the side surface of the first support member (ep) and the boundary between the detection region and the peripheral region is defined as the first distance, while the distance between the side surface of the second support member (ep) and the same boundary is defined as the second distance, which is larger than the first distance.

  • Semiconductor layer with detection and peripheral regions
  • First support member supporting part of the peripheral region
  • Second support member supporting part of the first support member
  • Defined distances between support members and boundary
  • Enhanced radiation detection capabilities

Potential Applications: - Radiation monitoring in medical facilities - Nuclear power plant safety systems - Environmental radiation monitoring

Problems Solved: - Improved accuracy in radiation detection - Enhanced structural support for semiconductor layer

Benefits: - Increased sensitivity to radiation - Enhanced durability and reliability - Precise boundary detection for accurate readings

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Radiation Detection Technology for Enhanced Safety Measures This technology can be utilized in various industries such as healthcare, energy, and environmental monitoring to ensure accurate and reliable radiation detection for safety and regulatory compliance purposes.

Questions about Radiation Detector Technology: 1. How does the positioning of the support members impact the performance of the radiation detector? 2. What are the specific advantages of using a semiconductor layer in radiation detection technology?

Original Abstract Submitted

a radiation detector includes a semiconductor layer including a detection region and a peripheral region provided outside the detection region, a first support member configured to support at least a part of the peripheral region in a surface of the semiconductor layer, and a second support member configured to support a part of the first support member from a side opposite to the semiconductor layer. a point at a side surface of the first support member is defined as ep, and a point at a side surface of the second support member is defined as ep, the ep is spaced apart from a boundary between the detection region and the peripheral region by a first distance, and the ep is spaced apart from the boundary between the detection region and the peripheral region by a second distance larger than the first distance.
