INK JET RECORDING METHOD AND INK JET RECORDING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240182731 titled 'INK JET RECORDING METHOD AND INK JET RECORDING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an ink jet recording method that uses an aqueous ink and an aqueous reaction liquid to record images on a medium. The ink contains a coloring material dispersed by an anionic group, while the reaction liquid contains a cationic resin and a polyvalent metal salt in specific ratios.

  • The aqueous ink disperses coloring material using an anionic group.
  • The aqueous reaction liquid contains a cationic resin and a polyvalent metal salt in specific ratios.
  • The method controls the amount of water absorbed by the recording medium during printing.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Use of anionic group to disperse coloring material in the ink.
  • Specific ratio of cationic resin to polyvalent metal salt in the reaction liquid.
  • Control of water absorption by the recording medium.

Potential Applications

The technology can be used in inkjet printing for various applications such as photo printing, document printing, and packaging.

Problems Solved

  • Ensures proper dispersion of coloring material in the ink.
  • Controls the reaction between the ink and reaction liquid.
  • Prevents excessive water absorption by the recording medium.

Benefits

  • Improved image quality in inkjet printing.
  • Enhanced color accuracy and vibrancy.
  • Reduced risk of smudging or bleeding during printing.

Commercial Applications

  • Photo printing industry.
  • Document printing services.
  • Packaging companies.

Questions about Ink Jet Recording Method

How does the specific ratio of cationic resin to polyvalent metal salt impact the printing process?

The ratio affects the reaction between the ink and reaction liquid, influencing color dispersion and image quality.

What are the potential environmental implications of using this ink jet recording method?

The aqueous nature of the ink and reaction liquid may have lower environmental impact compared to solvent-based alternatives, but further research is needed to assess any potential environmental implications.

Original Abstract Submitted

there is provided an ink jet recording method for recording an image on a recording medium with an aqueous ink and an aqueous reaction liquid containing a reactant that reacts with the aqueous ink. the aqueous ink contains a coloring material that is dispersed by the action of an anionic group. the aqueous reaction liquid contains a water-soluble cationic resin having a structure of a quaternary ammonium salt, and a polyvalent metal salt. the mass ratio of the amount of cationic resin (% by mass) contained to the amount of polyvalent metal salt (% by mass) contained in the aqueous reaction liquid is 0.08 times or more to 0.80 times or less. the amount of water absorbed by the recording medium from the start of contact to 30 msecin the bristow method is 10 ml/mor less.
