methods and techniques are disclosed to provide enhanced augmented reality and/or virtual reality content to a user based upon a physical media item such as a book, poster, museum display, or the like. a user device obtains an image of an access code that begins the enhanced experience. the device then may be used to scan one or more markers in or on the physical media that link to vr and/or ar digital content items associated with the physical media item or a portion thereof. the user is therefore able to experience the conventional printed media item in conjunction with enhanced material without requiring modification of the physical media item itself.
