METHOD FOR PRODUCING A WORKPIECE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240239045 titled 'METHOD FOR PRODUCING A WORKPIECE

Simplified Explanation: The method described in the patent application involves using a workpiece holder with a positioning element in an additive manufacturing device to produce a workpiece. The holder is placed on a base support, and the workpiece is manufactured on it. The temperature increase of the support system creates a clamping effect between the positioning element and the holder. After cooling, the workpiece is disengaged from the base support and moved to a support for subtractive post-processing.

  • The method involves using a workpiece holder with a positioning element in an additive manufacturing device.
  • The temperature increase of the support system creates a clamping effect between the positioning element and the holder.
  • After cooling, the workpiece is disengaged from the base support and moved to a support for subtractive post-processing.

Potential Applications: This method can be used in industries that require precise manufacturing processes, such as aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturing.

Problems Solved: This method solves the problem of securely holding a workpiece during additive manufacturing and post-processing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the production process.

Benefits: The method allows for precise manufacturing of workpieces with minimal risk of displacement during the manufacturing and post-processing stages, leading to higher quality end products.

Commercial Applications: Precision engineering companies can benefit from this technology by improving the accuracy and efficiency of their manufacturing processes, leading to higher quality products and increased customer satisfaction.

Prior Art: Prior research in the field of additive manufacturing and post-processing techniques may provide insights into similar methods or technologies that have been developed.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers in the field of additive manufacturing and precision engineering may be conducting studies on improving the efficiency and accuracy of manufacturing processes using similar techniques.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the clamping effect between the positioning element and the holder improve the manufacturing process? 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with using this method in industrial manufacturing processes?

Original Abstract Submitted

a method for producing a workpiece includes: placing a workpiece holder on a base support of a support system with a positioning element in an additive manufacturing device, the lower side of the workpiece holder having a first positioning device, the positioning element and first positioning device forming a pin/hole pair; performing additive manufacture of a workpiece on the workpiece holder using the manufacturing device, the temperature of the support system increasing, producing a clamping effect between the pin and the hole; cooling the support system, whereby the clamping effect is released; disengaging the workpiece holder together with the workpiece produced thereon from the base support; and arranging the workpiece holder on a support of an installation for the subtractive post-processing of the workpiece wherein a positioning element of the support and the positioning device of the workpiece holder engage in each other.
