MULTI-CDN CONTENT STEERING AT THE EDGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240333784 titled 'MULTI-CDN CONTENT STEERING AT THE EDGE
Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a system that steers chunked media content across multiple content delivery networks (CDNs) and an edge computing platform. This system dynamically routes media content requests to different CDNs based on quality of service analysis to enhance media playback experience.
- The system uses multiple CDNs and edge servers to deliver media content efficiently.
- A steering server is instantiated to analyze CDN quality of service and determine priority order for content delivery.
- The steering server generates a response with a priority order of CDNs, time interval for future requests, and a reload URI for server instantiation.
- Content is dynamically steered across CDNs based on quality of service analysis to optimize media playback experience.
Potential Applications: 1. Video streaming platforms can use this technology to improve streaming quality by dynamically switching CDNs based on performance. 2. Online gaming services can benefit from optimized content delivery to reduce latency and improve user experience.
Problems Solved: 1. Inefficient content delivery across CDNs. 2. Lack of real-time quality of service analysis for content delivery optimization.
Benefits: 1. Enhanced media playback experience. 2. Improved content delivery efficiency. 3. Reduced latency for real-time applications.
Commercial Applications: Optimizing content delivery for video streaming platforms, online gaming services, and other real-time media applications can lead to improved user satisfaction and retention.
Prior Art: Readers interested in prior art related to this technology can explore research on edge computing, content delivery networks, and quality of service optimization in media streaming.
Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in edge computing, CDN technologies, and quality of service analysis for media content delivery to further enhance the system's capabilities.
Questions about Steering Chunked Media Content Across CDNs: 1. How does the system determine the priority order of CDNs for content delivery? 2. What are the potential challenges in dynamically steering content across multiple CDNs based on quality of service analysis?
Original Abstract Submitted
a system for steering chunked media content using a plurality of content delivery networks (cdns) and an edge computing platform, is disclosed. upon receiving a media content request, a first edge server routes the request to a first cdn for delivering chunks of media content. a second edge server processes a steering request to instantiate a stateless steering server. the second edge server analyzes quality of service (qos) of the cdns to determine a priority order of the cdns for future content delivery. the steering server generates a response containing a priority order of cdns, a time interval for subsequent requests, and a reload uri. the uri triggers a new steering server instantiation with the plurality of cdns after the time interval. the system enhances media playback by dynamically steering content across cdns based on qos analysis.
