SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VIRTUAL APPROACH SIGNAL RESTRICTION UPGRADE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240246584 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VIRTUAL APPROACH SIGNAL RESTRICTION UPGRADE

The patent application describes a system and method for upgrading virtual approach signal restrictions between physical signaling components in a train control system.

  • Virtual signals with signal type functionality can split a block into multiple sections, allowing a train to accelerate on a clear indication if the advance signal indication upgrades.
  • Audio frequency circuits with the advance signal indication can enable a train to upgrade from a restricting indication to an approach or clear indication, while protecting against hazards.
  • The system allows trains to upgrade from a restricting indication to an approach or clear and accelerate indication with an upgraded PTC track line for the segment.

Potential Applications: - Railway signaling systems - Train control systems - Safety enhancements in rail transportation

Problems Solved: - Enhancing train acceleration based on signal indications - Improving safety by upgrading signal restrictions - Protecting against hazards in railway operations

Benefits: - Increased efficiency in train operations - Enhanced safety measures for trains - Improved signaling capabilities for better control

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Railway Signaling System for Improved Train Control This technology can be used in railway companies to upgrade their signaling systems, leading to safer and more efficient train operations. It can also be implemented by companies specializing in train control systems to offer advanced solutions to their clients.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the virtual approach signal restriction upgrade improve train operations? - The upgrade allows trains to accelerate on clear indications, enhancing efficiency and safety. 2. What are the key features of the audio frequency circuits in the system? - The audio frequency circuits enable trains to upgrade signal indications while protecting against hazards.

Original Abstract Submitted

a system and method for providing a virtual approach signal restriction upgrade between physical signaling components is presented. in one embodiment, in a ctc type of operation, the use of a virtual signal with signal type functionality to split a block into two or more sections can allow a train currently governed by an approach indication to accelerate on a clear indication if the advance signal indication upgrades. the addition of audio frequency type circuits with the advance signal indication can allow a train to upgrade from a restricting indication to an approach or clear indication, while protecting open ht switches, broken rail, hazards, and follow up moves. the present invention provides a system for allowing trains to upgrade from a “restricting” indication to an “approach” or “clear and accelerate” indication with an upgraded ptc track line for the segment.
