METHOD AND SYSTEM OF RESCINDING ACCESS TO BLOCKCHAIN DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240249015 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM OF RESCINDING ACCESS TO BLOCKCHAIN DATA

Simplified Explanation:

This patent application describes a method for revoking access to a specific block within a blockchain that contains encrypted data. The method involves creating an obsolescence lock when the block is created, splitting the private key of the obsolescence lock into secret shares, and then removing the encrypted content encryption keys from the block's metadata upon receiving certain rescission instructions.

  • The method involves creating an obsolescence lock for supporting a rescission request.
  • The obsolescence lock private key is split into secret shares for security.
  • Encrypted content encryption keys are removed from the block's metadata to revoke access to the original data.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Creation of an obsolescence lock for rescission requests.
  • Splitting the private key into secret shares for security.
  • Removal of encrypted content encryption keys to revoke access.

Potential Applications:

  • Data security and access control in blockchain technology.
  • Secure data deletion and revocation processes.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensuring secure revocation of access to specific blocks in a blockchain.
  • Protecting sensitive data from unauthorized access.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced data security and privacy protection.
  • Improved control over access rights within a blockchain.

Commercial Applications:

Secure data management solutions for industries such as finance, healthcare, and supply chain management.

Questions about Blockchain Revocation:

1. How does the method ensure the security of the obsolescence lock private key? 2. What are the potential implications of removing encrypted content encryption keys from the block's metadata?

2. Another relevant generic question, with a detailed answer:

How does this method contribute to enhancing data security and privacy protection within blockchain technology?

By implementing this method, organizations can effectively manage access rights and ensure the secure revocation of access to specific blocks containing sensitive data.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method of rescinding access to a designated block within a blockchain, wherein the designated block contains data encrypted with a content encryption key and is associated with metadata, wherein the metadata for the designated block include an obsolescence lock public key. the method includes creating, at the time the designated block is created, an obsolescence lock for supporting a rescission request if the rescission request is agreed upon by a required number of authorized parties for the designated block; splitting the obsolescence lock private key into a number of secret shares; and upon receiving particular rescission instruction block, an agreement instruction block and a confirmation instruction block, removing all encrypted content encryption keys from the metadata of the designated block, thereby rescinding access to the original data within the designated block. an equivalent method is presented to rescind access to a blockchain.
