COVERAGE DATA TRANSFER FOR COMMUNICATIONS WITH A NON-TERRESTRIAL NETWORK NODE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240259085 titled 'COVERAGE DATA TRANSFER FOR COMMUNICATIONS WITH A NON-TERRESTRIAL NETWORK NODE

The present application relates to devices and components that support discontinuous network coverage, including apparatus, systems, and methods.

  • UE and a network exchange information indicating a capability for using a control plane, a user plane, a short message service, and/or an operation and maintenance server for the transfer of coverage data of a non-terrestrial network.
  • The coverage data is provisioned on the UE and in the Access and Mobility Function (AMF) in the network based on this information.
  • The UE can determine when it is in the coverage area of the non-terrestrial network and connect to a network node, such as a base station.
    • Potential Applications:**

This technology can be applied in telecommunications, satellite communications, and IoT devices that require seamless network coverage.

    • Problems Solved:**

This technology addresses the issue of providing coverage data for non-terrestrial networks and enabling devices to connect to such networks efficiently.

    • Benefits:**

The benefits of this technology include improved connectivity in areas with discontinuous network coverage, enhanced communication capabilities for devices, and better network management.

    • Commercial Applications:**

Title: Enhanced Network Coverage Provisioning Technology This technology can be commercially used in satellite communication systems, IoT devices, and remote monitoring applications where reliable network coverage is essential.

    • Questions about the Technology:**

1. How does this technology improve network coverage in remote areas?

  - This technology improves network coverage in remote areas by providing coverage data for non-terrestrial networks and enabling devices to connect seamlessly.

2. What are the key features of this technology that make it stand out in the telecommunications industry?

  - The key features include the capability to exchange information for using different network planes and services, provisioning coverage data efficiently, and enabling devices to connect to non-terrestrial networks.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present application relates to devices and components including apparatus, systems, and methods that support discontinuous network coverage. in an example, a ue and a network exchange information indicating a capability for using a control plane, a user plane, a short message service, and/or an operation and maintenance server for the transfer of coverage data of a non-terrestrial network indicating when and/or where non terrestrial network coverage can be available to the ue. based on this information, the coverage data is provisioned on the ue and in the access and mobility function (amf) in the network. thereafter, the ue can determine when the ue is in the coverage area of the non-terrestrial network and can connect to a network node thereof, such as a base station.
