SHELF-STABLE BUILD MATERIALS FOR 3D PRINTING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240317909 titled 'SHELF-STABLE BUILD MATERIALS FOR 3D PRINTING

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes build materials for 3D printing that can produce articles with high tensile strength and heat deflection temperature while remaining stable on the shelf.

  • The polymerizable liquid in the materials contains at least 20% isocyanurate polyacrylate, a photoinitiator, and a crystallization inhibitor to prevent crystallization over time.
  • The materials are designed to maintain their properties over a period of 28 days at a storage temperature of 5-10°C.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • High tensile strength and heat deflection temperature in 3D printed articles.
  • Shelf stability over time due to the inclusion of a crystallization inhibitor.
  • Polymerizable liquid containing isocyanurate polyacrylate and a photoinitiator for effective 3D printing.

Potential Applications:

  • Aerospace industry for lightweight, high-strength components.
  • Medical field for custom implants and prosthetics.
  • Automotive sector for durable parts with high heat resistance.

Problems Solved:

  • Maintaining high tensile strength and heat deflection temperature in 3D printed objects.
  • Preventing crystallization in build materials over time.
  • Ensuring shelf stability of polymerizable liquids for 3D printing applications.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced performance of 3D printed articles.
  • Increased durability and heat resistance.
  • Improved quality and reliability of printed components.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include:

  • Manufacturing of aerospace components.
  • Production of medical devices and implants.
  • Fabrication of automotive parts with high heat resistance.

Questions about 3D Printing Build Materials: 1. What are the specific advantages of using isocyanurate polyacrylate in 3D printing build materials? 2. How does the inclusion of a crystallization inhibitor improve the shelf stability of polymerizable liquids for 3D printing?

Original Abstract Submitted

build materials for 3d printing applications are described herein which, in some embodiments, comprise monomeric species operable for producing articles with high tand/or high heat deflection temperature while maintaining shelf stability. in one aspect, a polymerizable liquid comprises at least 20 weight percent isocyanurate polyacrylate; a photoinitiator component; and a crystallization inhibitor component comprising monomeric curable material, oligomeric curable material or mixtures thereof, wherein the polymerizable liquid does not exhibit crystallization over a period of 28 days at a storage temperature of 5-10 c.
