METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION ON BASIS OF AUTHENTICATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240030753 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION ON BASIS OF AUTHENTICATION

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes a device and method for wireless power transmission based on authentication. The wireless power receiver includes a communication/control circuit that performs an authentication procedure using out-band communication, specifically Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication. The authentication procedure is based on the Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP) or the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) of the BLE communication.

  • The device enables wireless power transmission through an authentication procedure using out-band communication.
  • The out-band communication is based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol.
  • The communication/control circuit of the wireless power receiver performs the authentication procedure using the Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP) or the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) of the BLE communication.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless charging of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
  • Powering IoT devices without the need for physical connections.
  • Charging electric vehicles wirelessly.
  • Powering medical implants without the need for invasive procedures.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Eliminates the need for physical connections or cables for power transmission.
  • Provides a secure and authenticated wireless power transmission method.
  • Enables convenient and efficient charging of devices without the hassle of plugging and unplugging cables.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user convenience and flexibility in charging devices.
  • Improved safety by eliminating the risk of electric shock from exposed cables.
  • Enables the development of new applications and devices that rely on wireless power transmission.
  • Reduces clutter and simplifies the charging process by eliminating the need for multiple cables and adapters.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present disclosure relates to a device and a method for performing wireless power transmission on the basis of authentication. a wireless power receiver according to the present specification comprises a communication/control circuit for performing an authentication procedure on the basis of out-band communication, wherein the out-band communication is bluetooth low energy (ble) communication, and the communication/control circuit performs the authentication procedure on the basis of a logical link control and adaptation protocol (l2cap) or a generic attribute profile (gatt) of the ble communication. the present disclosure defines an authentication procedure or authentication messages of a wireless transmission device or a wireless reception device by using an out-band communication protocol, and thus can support various applications of wireless power.
