Seated Passenger Height Estimation - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240013419 titled 'Seated Passenger Height Estimation
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for estimating the height of a passenger seated at a vehicle seat. The system receives images of the vehicle interior showing the passenger and/or the seat. It determines body keypoints indicating the location of defined body portions of the passenger and seat keypoints indicating the location of defined points of the vehicle seat. By correlating the determined body and seat keypoints, the system estimates the height of the passenger and outputs it to a seat occupancy classification system.
- The system estimates the height of a passenger seated at a vehicle seat based on images of the vehicle interior.
- It determines body keypoints indicating the location of defined body portions of the passenger.
- It determines seat keypoints indicating the location of defined points of the vehicle seat.
- The system correlates the determined body and seat keypoints to estimate the height of the passenger.
- The estimated height is then outputted to a seat occupancy classification system.
Potential applications of this technology:
- Automotive industry: This technology can be used in vehicles to automatically estimate the height of passengers for various purposes such as adjusting seat positions, optimizing airbag deployment, and personalizing vehicle settings.
- Transportation and ride-sharing services: This technology can be implemented in taxis, ride-sharing vehicles, and public transportation to monitor passenger height for safety and comfort purposes.
- Security and surveillance systems: This technology can be utilized in security systems to estimate the height of individuals in public spaces for identification and tracking purposes.
Problems solved by this technology:
- Accurate height estimation: The system provides a method for estimating the height of a passenger seated at a vehicle seat using image analysis, which can be more accurate than manual measurements or estimations.
- Automation: This technology eliminates the need for manual height measurements or estimations, making the process more efficient and convenient.
- Personalization: By accurately estimating the height of passengers, the system can enable personalized adjustments and settings in vehicles, enhancing comfort and safety.
Benefits of this technology:
- Improved safety: Accurate height estimation can help optimize safety features such as airbag deployment, seatbelt tensioning, and seat position adjustments.
- Enhanced comfort: Personalized adjustments based on estimated height can improve the overall comfort of passengers during travel.
- Efficiency: Automation of height estimation eliminates the need for manual measurements, saving time and effort for both passengers and vehicle operators.
Original Abstract Submitted
disclosed are methods, apparatuses and computer program products configured for estimating a height of a passenger seated at a vehicle seat. in an aspect, one or more images of a portion of a vehicle interior are received. the images show at least a part of the passenger seated on the vehicle seat and/or at least a part of the vehicle seat, but at least one of the images shows at least the part of the passenger seated on the vehicle seat. based on the images, a number of body keypoints indicative of the location of defined body portions of the passenger are determined and a number of seat keypoints indicative of the location of defined points of the vehicle seat is determined. based at least on a correlation of the determined body and seat keypoints, the height of the passenger is estimated and outputted to a seat occupancy classification system.
