SELECTING SWITCH - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18749803 titled 'SELECTING SWITCH

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a selecting switch with a unique mechanism involving a slider, actuators, contacts, cams, and a biasing member.

  • The switch includes a first actuator that rotates downward when pushed by the slider.
  • A second actuator holds a movable contact that interacts with a fixed contact.
  • A cam protruding portion on the second actuator contacts a lower inclined surface of the first actuator.
  • A cam on the second actuator rotates downward when pushed by the cam protruding portion sliding on the lower inclined surface.
  • A biasing member biases the cam upward, creating a conductive state between the contacts when the first actuator is rotated downward.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Unique mechanism involving multiple components for switching between conductive states.
  • Integration of cams, actuators, and biasing members for efficient operation.
  • Precise control over the switching process with the slider and inclined surfaces.

Potential Applications:

  • Electrical switches in various devices and equipment.
  • Automation systems requiring precise control over conductive states.
  • Industrial machinery for switching between different modes of operation.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures reliable and efficient switching between conductive states.
  • Provides a mechanism for precise control over electrical contacts.
  • Reduces the risk of contact failure or inconsistent performance.

Benefits:

  • Improved reliability and durability of switching components.
  • Enhanced control over electrical connections in different applications.
  • Simplified design for efficient operation and maintenance.

Commercial Applications:

The technology can be applied in various industries such as electronics, automation, and manufacturing. It offers a reliable and precise solution for switching between different electrical states, making it valuable for commercial products and systems.

Questions about Selecting Switches:

1. How does the unique mechanism of this selecting switch improve its performance compared to traditional switches? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits of implementing this technology in industrial machinery and automation systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

A selecting switch includes a case; a slider; a first actuator that rotates downward as pushed down by the slider; a second actuator holding a movable contact; a contact to be contacted by the movable contact; a cam protruding portion that is rotatably born by the second actuator and that contacts a lower inclined surface of the first actuator; a cam that rotates downward upon the cam protruding portion being pushed down while sliding on the lower inclined surface; and a biasing member that biases the cam upward. Upon the first actuator being rotated downward by an angle, the cam protruding portion slides up toward a top of the lower inclined surface by biasing force from the biasing member, and the cam pulls up the second actuator, and a conductive state between the movable contact member and the fixed contact is to be switched.
