AGROCHEMICAL COMPOSITION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18681909 titled 'AGROCHEMICAL COMPOSITION

The agrochemical composition described in the patent application includes an agrochemical active ingredient and a graft polymer.

  • The graft polymer consists of a polymer backbone obtained by polymerizing alkylene oxides and optionally polyols or polyamines, and polymeric sidechains grafted onto the backbone by polymerizing vinyl ester monomers.
  • The graft polymer acts as a dispersant for pesticides in agrochemical compositions and is biodegradable.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be used in the agricultural industry to improve the dispersion of pesticides in agrochemical formulations.
  • It can enhance the effectiveness of agrochemical products by ensuring better coverage and distribution of active ingredients.

Problems Solved:

  • The technology addresses the issue of poor dispersion of pesticides in agrochemical formulations, which can lead to uneven application and reduced efficacy.
  • It also tackles environmental concerns by offering a biodegradable dispersant option for agrochemical products.

Benefits:

  • Improved dispersion of pesticides leading to better pest control and crop protection.
  • Biodegradability of the dispersant reduces environmental impact and promotes sustainability in agriculture.

Commercial Applications:

  • "Graft polymer dispersant for agrochemical formulations: Enhancing pesticide effectiveness and environmental sustainability in agriculture."

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the graft polymer improve the dispersion of pesticides in agrochemical compositions? 2. What are the environmental benefits of using a biodegradable dispersant in agrochemical products?

Original Abstract Submitted

An agrochemical composition comprising (i) an agrochemical active ingredient; and (ii) a graft polymer comprising (A) a polymer backbone as a graft base, wherein said polymer backbone is obtainable by polymerization of at least one alkylene oxide selected from the group of C- to C-alkylene oxides, preferably C- to C-alkylene oxides, such as ethylene oxide, 1,2-propylene oxide, 1,2-butylene oxide, 2,3-butylene oxide, 1,2-pentene oxide or 2,3-pentene oxide; and optionally at least one polyol selected from the group of C- to C-polyols or at least one polyamine selected from the group of C- to C-polyamines; and (B) polymeric sidechains grafted onto the polymer backbone (A), wherein said polymeric sidechains (B) are obtainable by polymerization of monomers comprising at least one vinyl ester monomer (B1) in the presence of the polymer backbone (A). It was found that the graft polymer of the inventive composition is suitable as a dispersant for pesticides in agrochemical compositions. Moreover, the graft polymer typically exhibits a suitably high degree of biodegradability.
