COMMUNICATION METHOD AND DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18673639 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD AND DEVICE

The abstract of this patent application describes a communication method and device where a terminal device sends small data to an access network device on a preconfigured resource while in an RRC non-connected state. If information indicating successful transmission of the data is received before a timer expires, the timer is stopped.

  • Terminal device sends small data to access network device on preconfigured resource
  • Timer is started upon sending data
  • If information indicating successful transmission is received before timer expires, timer is stopped
  • Information can be MAC layer information or scheduling information
  • Eliminates need for feedback information at physical layer

Potential Applications: - Mobile communication networks - Internet of Things (IoT) devices - Industrial automation systems

Problems Solved: - Efficient data transmission in RRC non-connected state - Reduction of unnecessary feedback information

Original Abstract Submitted

This application relates to a communication method and device. A terminal device sends first data to an access network device on a first resource, and starts a first timer, where the first resource is a preconfigured resource, the first data is small data, and the terminal device is in an RRC non-connected state. If first information is received before the first timer expires, the first timer is stopped, where the first information is information indicating that the first data is successfully transmitted, and the first information is MAC layer information, or the first information is information for scheduling a resource. If the first information is, for example, the MAC layer information, feedback information at a physical layer does not need to be introduced.
