DETERMINING POSITION INFORMATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18672347 titled 'DETERMINING POSITION INFORMATION
The abstract describes a mobile device that can receive wireless local area network signals and determine Channel State Information (CSI) data from these signals. The device can then analyze environmental characteristics based on the CSI data and send this information to a location server or use it to determine the device's position.
- The mobile device receives WLAN signals and analyzes CSI data.
- It determines environmental characteristics based on the CSI data.
- The device can send information about the environmental characteristics to a location server.
- It can also use the environmental characteristics to determine its position.
- The innovation combines WLAN signals and CSI data to understand the environment and location of the mobile device.
Potential Applications: - Location-based services - Environmental monitoring - Indoor navigation systems
Problems Solved: - Improving location accuracy in indoor environments - Enhancing environmental awareness for mobile devices
Benefits: - Better location tracking in complex indoor spaces - Enhanced user experience for location-based services
Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Indoor Navigation Systems This technology can be used in shopping malls, airports, and other indoor spaces to provide accurate navigation and location-based services to users. This innovation can improve customer experience and increase engagement in indoor environments.
Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the mobile device determine environmental characteristics based on CSI data?
The mobile device analyzes the variations in the WLAN signals to understand the environment's characteristics.
2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in real-world scenarios?
Some challenges may include signal interference and the need for accurate calibration of the device.
Original Abstract Submitted
A mobile device is disclosed. The mobile device may receive one or more wireless local area network (WLAN) signals. The mobile device may determine Channel State Information (CSI) data from the one or more WLAN signals. The mobile device may determine one or more environmental characteristics associated with an environment of the mobile device based on the CSI data. The mobile device may send information indicative of the one or more environmental characteristics to a location server (LS), or determine a position of the mobile device based at least in part on the one or more environmental characteristics, or any combination thereof.
