REFRIGERATOR AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18653152 titled 'REFRIGERATOR AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SAME

The abstract describes a refrigerator with a unique ice-making cell design, including a first tray and a second tray that are part of the ice-making process. The refrigerator also features a water supply, a heater, and a controller to control the heater and the movement of the second tray.

  • The refrigerator includes a first tray and a second tray forming an ice-making cell.
  • Water undergoes a phase change to ice in the ice-making cell due to cool air.
  • The second tray is moveable with respect to the first tray during the ice-making process.
  • A water supply is provided to supply water to the ice-making cell.
  • A heater is adjacent to at least one of the trays, and a controller controls the heater.

Original Abstract Submitted

A refrigerator includes a first tray forming a part of an ice-making cell in which water undergoes a phase change to ice due to the cool air, a second tray forming another part of the ice-making cell and in contact with the first tray during an ice-making process, a water supply to supply water to the ice-making cell, a heater which is adjacent to at least one of the first tray or the second tray; and a controller to control the heater. The second tray is moveable with respect to the first tray, and the controller is configured to control a movement of the second tray.
