LIGHT-EMITTING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18624608 titled 'LIGHT-EMITTING DEVICE

Simplified Explanation:

This patent application describes a light-emitting device with multiple layers that control the emission of light from a light-emitting diode (LED).

  • The device includes a substrate, a light-emitting diode, a first layer, a color filter layer, and a second layer.
  • The LED is placed on the substrate, with a portion of it positioned within an opening in the first layer.
  • The color filter layer is on top of the LED, and the second layer is above the first layer, with an opening that overlaps the opening in the first layer.
  • The second layer is designed to block or shield the light emitted by the LED.
  • Importantly, the width of the opening in the first layer is smaller than the width of the opening in the second layer in the cross-sectional view of the device.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Multi-layer design for controlling light emission from the LED.
  • Specific arrangement of openings in the layers to regulate the light output.
  • Enhanced control over the color and intensity of the emitted light.

Original Abstract Submitted

A light-emitting device includes a substrate, a light-emitting diode, a first layer, a color filter layer, and a second layer. The light-emitting diode is disposed on the substrate. The first layer is disposed on the substrate and has an opening. At least a portion of the light-emitting diode is disposed in the opening of the first layer. The color filter layer is disposed on the light-emitting diode. The second layer is disposed on the first layer and has an opening overlapped with the opening of the first layer. The second layer is configured to shield light emitted from the light-emitting diode. In the cross-sectional view of the light-emitting device, the minimum width of the opening of the first layer is less than the minimum width of the opening of the second layer.
