FIXING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18624241 titled 'FIXING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The patent application describes a fixing apparatus for toner images on recording materials, including a heating member, an opposing member, and a control unit that sets the target temperature of the heating member.

  • The control unit acquires toner amount information for different regions in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction.
  • Based on toner amount information from the first and second toner images on different recording materials, the control unit sets the target temperature to heat the second recording material.

Potential Applications: - Printing industry for high-quality image output - Office equipment for efficient document processing

Problems Solved: - Ensures proper fixing of toner images on recording materials - Maintains consistent print quality across different regions

Benefits: - Improved image quality - Energy efficiency through targeted heating

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Fixing Apparatus for Printing Industry This technology can be used in commercial printers, copiers, and multifunction devices to enhance print quality and efficiency, catering to businesses that rely on high-quality document output.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the control unit determine the target temperature for heating the second recording material? - The control unit uses toner amount information from previous toner images to adjust the target temperature accordingly.

2. What are the key components of the fixing apparatus and how do they work together to ensure proper fixing of toner images? - The heating member provides the necessary heat, the opposing member applies pressure, and the control unit regulates the temperature based on toner amount information.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a fixing apparatus for fixing a toner image on a recording material, including: a heating member; an opposing member which nips the recording material; and a control unit that sets a target temperature of the heating member. The control unit acquires toner amount information for each of a plurality of regions which are separated in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction, and sets, based on (i) a first value which is based on toner amount information in each region of a first toner image formed on a first recording material, (ii) a conveying interval between the first and a second recording material, and (iii) a second value which is based on toner amount information in each region of a second toner image formed on the second recording material, the control unit sets the target temperature to heat the second recording material.
