Location-Based Policy for Wireless Device - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18616736 titled 'Location-Based Policy for Wireless Device

Simplified Explanation: The abstract describes a system where an Access and Mobility Function (AMF) in an overlay network receives location information of a wireless device from a Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF). The AMF then communicates with a Policy and Charging Control Function (PCF) to establish a policy association for the device's access via an underlay network. The AMF receives policy information from the PCF and sends it to the wireless device.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • AMF receives location information of a wireless device from N3IWF.
  • AMF communicates with PCF to establish a policy association for device access via an underlay network.
  • AMF receives policy information from PCF and sends it to the wireless device.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in telecommunications networks to enhance access and mobility management for wireless devices.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for efficient policy establishment and communication for wireless device access in overlay and underlay networks.

Benefits:

  • Improved access and mobility management for wireless devices.
  • Enhanced policy establishment and communication between network functions.

Commercial Applications: This technology can be utilized by telecommunications companies to optimize network performance and enhance user experience.

Prior Art: Readers interested in prior art related to this technology can explore research papers and patents in the field of network management and communication protocols.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers in the field of telecommunications and network management may be conducting studies on the optimization of access and mobility functions in overlay networks.

Questions about Access and Mobility Function (AMF): 1. How does the AMF enhance policy establishment for wireless device access? 2. What are the key functions of the AMF in an overlay network?

Original Abstract Submitted

An access and mobility function (AMF) of an overlay network may receive, from a non-3GPP interworking function (N3IWF), a first message. The first message may comprise location information of a wireless device. The AMF may send, to a policy and charging control function (PCF), a second message to establish a policy association for access of the wireless device via an underlay network. The AMF may further receive, from the PCF, policy information for access of the wireless device via the underlay network. The AMF may further send the received policy information to the wireless device.
