CONTROLLER FOR A VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18615950 titled 'CONTROLLER FOR A VEHICLE

The abstract describes a patent application for a controller for a vehicle that includes an imaging device with an imaging accelerometer to determine the orientation of the imaging device relative to the vehicle.

  • The controller has an input for receiving imaging accelerometer data and image data, a processor to identify alignment artefacts in the image data based on the accelerometer data, and an output for outputting an error signal related to the identified artefacts.
  • This innovation allows for the automatic detection and correction of alignment issues in images captured by the vehicle's imaging device, improving the accuracy and quality of the captured data.
  • By utilizing the imaging accelerometer data, the controller can adjust the orientation of the imaging device in real-time to ensure precise alignment and eliminate errors in the captured images.
  • The technology can be applied in various industries such as autonomous vehicles, surveillance systems, and aerial photography, where accurate image alignment is crucial for effective operation.
  • The system addresses the problem of misalignment in image data caused by the movement or vibration of the vehicle, ensuring that the captured images are correctly oriented and free from distortions.
  • The benefits of this technology include improved image quality, increased efficiency in data processing, and enhanced overall performance of the vehicle's imaging system.
  • Commercial applications of this technology include use in self-driving cars, security cameras, and drone photography systems, where precise image alignment is essential for optimal functionality.

Questions about the technology:

1. How does the imaging accelerometer data help in identifying alignment artefacts in the captured images? 2. What are the potential implications of this technology for the development of autonomous vehicles and surveillance systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

A controller for a vehicle, the vehicle comprising an imaging device for generating image data and the imaging device further comprising an imaging accelerometer for generating imaging accelerometer data for determining the orientation of the imaging device relative to the vehicle, the controller comprising: an input for receiving a signal indicative of the imaging accelerometer data and the generated image data; a processor arranged to identify alignment artefacts in the received image data in dependence on the received imaging accelerometer data; and an output for outputting an error signal in dependence on the identified alignment artefacts.
