CONTINUOUS DIALOG WITH A DIGITAL ASSISTANT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18614510 titled 'CONTINUOUS DIALOG WITH A DIGITAL ASSISTANT

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes systems and processes for operating an intelligent automated assistant. It involves receiving speech inputs from a user, providing responses, and adjusting a session window based on the speech inputs.

  • A first speech input is received from a user.
  • A response is provided based on the first speech input.
  • A session window is initiated with a variable speech threshold.
  • A second speech input is received during the session window.
  • The duration of the session window is adjusted based on the speech inputs.
  • The session window is ended if the speech threshold is not exceeded.

Questions about the Technology

How does the system determine the speech threshold for the session window?

The system uses a variable speech threshold that can be adjusted based on the speech inputs received during the session window.

What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in real-world applications?

Some potential challenges could include fine-tuning the speech recognition algorithms for different accents and languages, ensuring privacy and data security in voice interactions, and integrating the system seamlessly with existing software and hardware platforms.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and processes for operating an intelligent automated assistant are provided. For example, a first speech input directed to a digital assistant is received from a user. A first response is provided based on the first speech input. A session window is initiated, wherein the session window is associated with a variable speech threshold. A second speech input is received during the session window. In accordance with a determination that the second speech input includes speech directed to the digital assistant, a duration associated with the session window is increased. In accordance with a determination that the variable speech threshold does not exceed a predetermined speech threshold, the session window is ended.
