STRETCHABLE DISPLAY APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18610972 titled 'STRETCHABLE DISPLAY APPARATUS

The abstract describes a stretchable display device with a substrate containing two island areas and a connection area, subpixel circuits, light-emitting diodes, and a wiring structure with conductive layers.

  • The device includes a substrate with distinct island areas and a connection area.
  • Subpixel circuits are located in each island area, controlling light-emitting diodes.
  • Light-emitting diodes are present in each island area and connected to their respective subpixel circuits.
  • The wiring structure in the connection area links the subpixel circuits, utilizing different conductive materials in its layers.

Potential Applications: - Flexible and stretchable electronic displays - Wearable technology - Biomedical devices

Problems Solved: - Enables the creation of displays that can bend and stretch without damage - Facilitates the integration of electronics into flexible surfaces

Benefits: - Enhanced durability and flexibility in display technology - Opens up new possibilities for design and functionality in electronic devices

Commercial Applications: Stretchable displays could revolutionize the wearable technology market, leading to the development of more comfortable and versatile devices for consumers.

Questions about Stretchable Display Technology: 1. How does the use of different conductive materials in the wiring structure benefit the overall performance of the device? 2. What are the potential challenges in mass-producing stretchable displays for commercial use?

Original Abstract Submitted

A stretchable display device includes: a substrate including: a first island area and a second island area, spaced apart from each other, and a connection area connected between the first island area and the second island area; a first subpixel circuit disposed in the first island area; a second subpixel circuit disposed in the second island area; a first light-emitting diode disposed in the first island area and electrically connected to the first subpixel circuit; a second light-emitting diode disposed in the second island area and electrically connected to the second subpixel circuit; and a wiring disposed in the connection area and electrically connected to the first subpixel circuit and the second subpixel circuit, where the wiring includes a first conductive layer including a conductive organic material, and a second conductive layer disposed on the first conductive layer and including a material different from that of the first conductive layer.
