MEDICAL APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18609338 titled 'MEDICAL APPARATUS

The medical apparatus described in the patent application consists of a driving source, a base unit with a coupling portion connected to the driving source, a bendable unit with a bending portion, a linear member to bend the bending portion, an operation portion, and a deceleration mechanism with an output member driven by a force from the operation portion. The coupling portion has a retaining portion that can switch between a retaining state and a releasing state, and a switching portion moved by the output member to switch the retaining portion between states. When the operation portion moves a certain amount, the output member moves a smaller amount.

  • The medical apparatus includes a unique deceleration mechanism that allows for precise control of movement.
  • The coupling portion enables easy switching between retaining and releasing states for efficient operation.
  • The bendable unit provides flexibility for navigating through complex anatomical structures.
  • The linear member ensures accurate bending of the bending portion.
  • The operation portion allows for user control of the apparatus.

Potential Applications: - Minimally invasive surgical procedures - Endoscopic examinations - Robotic-assisted surgeries

Problems Solved: - Lack of precise control in medical apparatus movement - Difficulty in navigating tight spaces within the body - Limited flexibility in traditional medical devices

Benefits: - Improved accuracy in medical procedures - Enhanced maneuverability in confined spaces - Increased efficiency in surgical operations

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Medical Apparatus for Precision Procedures This technology can be utilized in hospitals, surgical centers, and research institutions for a wide range of medical procedures, enhancing the quality of care and patient outcomes.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the deceleration mechanism contribute to the overall functionality of the medical apparatus? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits of using this innovative device in medical settings?

Original Abstract Submitted

The medical apparatus includes a driving source, a base unit including a coupling portion connected to the driving source, a bendable unit including a bending portion, and a linear member configured to bend the bending portion, an operation portion, and a deceleration mechanism including an output member that is driven by a force transmitted from the operation portion. The coupling portion includes a retaining portion configured to be transited between a retaining state and a releasing state, and a switching portion configured to be moved by the output member and configured to switch the retaining portion between the retaining state and the releasing state. In a case where the operation portion is moved for a first movement amount, the output member is configured to be moved for a second movement amount that is smaller than the first movement amount.
