IMMEDIATE STITCHING AND RECOVERY STITCHING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18607297 titled 'IMMEDIATE STITCHING AND RECOVERY STITCHING

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a method using a computer processor to receive intraoral scans from an intraoral scanner, register the scans to update a 3D model of the intraoral surface, and display the model on a screen.

  • The method involves receiving intraoral scans during scanning.
  • Each scan includes an image of light spots on the intraoral surface.
  • The scans are registered to update a 3D model in real-time.
  • The updated model is displayed on a screen.
  • The process occurs at a rate of 3-100 times per second.

Key Features and Innovation: - Real-time updating of a 3D model during intraoral scanning. - High-speed processing at a rate of 3-100 times per second. - Displaying the 3D model on a screen for visualization.

Potential Applications: - Intraoral scanning for dental procedures. - Orthodontic treatments for creating custom aligners. - Prosthodontics for designing dental implants.

Problems Solved: - Improved accuracy of intraoral scans. - Real-time visualization of the intraoral surface. - Enhanced efficiency in dental procedures.

Benefits: - Faster scanning process. - Accurate 3D modeling. - Enhanced patient experience.

Commercial Applications: Title: Real-time Intraoral Scanning Technology for Dental Applications This technology can be used in dental clinics, orthodontic practices, and prosthodontic laboratories for efficient and accurate intraoral scanning. It can streamline dental procedures, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance patient satisfaction.

Questions about Intraoral Scanning Technology: 1. How does real-time updating of a 3D model benefit dental procedures? 2. What are the potential limitations of using intraoral scanning technology in dentistry?

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing research in the field of intraoral scanning technology focuses on improving scanning speed, accuracy, and integration with other dental software systems. Stay updated on the latest advancements to leverage the full potential of this technology in dental practice.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method is provided, including using at least one computer processor, for receiving, during intraoral scanning of an intraoral three-dimensional (3D) surface by an intraoral scanner, a plurality of intraoral scans of the intraoral 3D surface generated by the intraoral scanner, each intraoral scan including an image of a distribution of discrete unconnected spots of light projected on the intraoral 3D surface, registering the plurality of intraoral scans to each other during the intraoral scanning to update a 3D model of the intraoral 3D surface at a rate of 3-100 times per second, and outputting a view of the 3D model of the intraoral 3D surface to a display. Other applications are also described.
