TARGET PART IDENTIFICATION AMONG HUMAN-BODY INTERNAL IMAGES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18602379 titled 'TARGET PART IDENTIFICATION AMONG HUMAN-BODY INTERNAL IMAGES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a surgery assistance apparatus and method that improve the accuracy of endoscopic surgery by identifying a target part image in human-body internal images captured using an endoscope.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Feature amount calculation unit calculates the feature amount of a target part image in human-body internal images.
  • Similarity degree calculation unit calculates the similarity degree of feature amounts between different human-body internal images.
  • Identification unit identifies the target part image in different human-body internal images based on the similarity degree.

Potential Applications

This technology can be used in various medical settings where endoscopic surgery is performed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of surgical procedures.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the challenge of accurately identifying target parts in human-body internal images during endoscopic surgery, which can improve surgical outcomes and reduce the risk of errors.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved accuracy in identifying target parts during endoscopic surgery, leading to better surgical outcomes and potentially reducing the need for follow-up procedures.

Commercial Applications

  • Medical device companies can integrate this technology into their endoscopic equipment to offer advanced surgical assistance capabilities.
  • Hospitals and surgical centers can benefit from improved surgical accuracy and efficiency, potentially attracting more patients seeking high-quality care.

Questions about Surgery Assistance Technology

What are the potential limitations of using this technology in complex surgical procedures?

Complex surgical procedures may require additional validation and testing to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the technology in diverse clinical scenarios.

How does this technology compare to existing surgical assistance systems in terms of accuracy and efficiency?

This technology offers a unique approach to identifying target parts in human-body internal images, potentially improving accuracy and efficiency compared to traditional methods.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided are a surgery assistance apparatus, a surgery assistance method, and a computer readable recording medium that includes a surgery assistance program recorded thereon that improve the accuracy of endoscopic surgery by identifying a target part image. A surgery assistance apparatus includes a feature amount calculation unit that calculates, from a human-body internal image captured using an endoscope, a feature amount of a target part image corresponding to a target part, a similarity degree calculation unit that calculates a similarity degree of the features amount between different human-body internal images, and an identification unit that identifies the target part image in each of the different human-body internal images if the similarity degree is greater than or equal to a predetermined value.
