STRAIN RELIEF DEVICE AND PLUG CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18600134 titled 'STRAIN RELIEF DEVICE AND PLUG CONNECTOR

The strain relief device described in the patent application consists of a lamella element and a clamping body.

  • The lamella element has a base element with a through-opening for feeding through a strand-shaped element parallel to an axial direction, and a lamella projecting from the base element along the axial direction.
  • The clamping body, annular in shape, is rotatably arranged on the lamella element outside the lamella.
  • The front portion of the lamella facing away from the base element is ramp-shaped on its outer side facing the clamping body, with a distance to the through-opening that increases along the direction of rotation.
  • The clamping body has at least one projection projecting radially inward, which couples with the front portion of the lamella during rotation, displacing the lamella away from the clamping body.

Potential Applications: - This strain relief device can be used in electrical cables, wires, and other applications where strain relief is necessary. - It can be utilized in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics for securing and protecting cables.

Problems Solved: - The device helps prevent damage to cables and wires by relieving strain and tension. - It ensures a secure and stable connection, reducing the risk of disconnection or breakage.

Benefits: - Improved cable management and organization. - Enhanced durability and longevity of cables. - Easy installation and adjustment for different cable sizes.

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Strain Relief Device for Enhanced Cable Protection This technology can be commercialized for use in industries such as telecommunications, construction, and manufacturing where cable management and protection are crucial. The market implications include increased efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and improved safety standards.

Questions about the Strain Relief Device: 1. How does the design of the lamella element contribute to the effectiveness of the strain relief device? The ramp-shaped front portion of the lamella helps to displace the cable away from the clamping body, reducing strain and tension on the cable. 2. What industries can benefit the most from the use of this strain relief device? Various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics can benefit from the enhanced cable protection and strain relief provided by this device.

Original Abstract Submitted

A strain relief device. The strain relief device includes: a lamella element with a base element with a through-opening, set up for feeding through a strand-shaped element substantially parallel to an axial direction, and a lamella which projects from the base element along the axial direction; a clamping body, annular in shape and arranged rotatably on the lamella element radially outside the lamella; wherein the lamella, in a front portion facing away from the base element, is ramp-shaped on its outer side facing the clamping body in the direction of rotation, with a distance to the through-opening that increases along the direction of rotation, and the clamping body has at least one projection projecting radially inward, couples with the front portion of the lamella when there is a rotation of the clamping body and displaces the lamella in a direction away from the clamping body.
