IMAGING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18599298 titled 'IMAGING DEVICE

The abstract describes an imaging device with a pixel array section and a column signal processor. The device includes imaging pixels and reference pixels that output signals based on incident light and reset signals, respectively.

  • Pixel array section with multiple pixels arranged in rows and columns
  • Imaging pixels output pixel signals based on incident light
  • Reference pixels aligned in columns output reset signals
  • Column signal processor calculates the difference between imaging pixel signal and reference signal
  • Reference pixels located in the same row as the imaging pixel are used for comparison

Potential Applications: - Digital cameras - Medical imaging devices - Surveillance systems

Problems Solved: - Improving image quality by using reference pixels for calibration - Enhancing accuracy of pixel signal processing

Benefits: - Higher quality images - Improved calibration and accuracy - Enhanced performance in various imaging applications

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Imaging Device for Enhanced Image Quality This technology can be used in digital cameras, medical imaging devices, and surveillance systems to improve image quality and accuracy, leading to better performance and customer satisfaction in the market.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the column signal processor enhance image quality in the imaging device?

The column signal processor calculates the difference between the imaging pixel signal and the reference signal, allowing for calibration and improved accuracy in image processing.

2. What are the potential commercial applications of this imaging device technology?

This technology can be applied in various industries such as photography, healthcare, and security for enhanced image quality and performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

An imaging device is provided with a pixel array section including multiple pixels arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, and a column signal processor. The multiple pixels include multiple imaging pixels that each output a pixel signal corresponding to incident light and multiple reference pixels which are aligned in the column direction in at least two columns and which each output a reset signal corresponding to the output signal at reset of each of the multiple first pixels. The column signal processor outputs the difference between the pixel signal outputted by one imaging pixel from among the multiple imaging pixels and a reference signal based on the reset signals outputted by at least two reference pixels, from among the multiple reference pixels, located in the same row as the one imaging pixel.
