ABNORMAL SOUND DETECTION DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18597206 titled 'ABNORMAL SOUND DETECTION DEVICE

The patent application describes an abnormal sound detection device that can identify abnormal sounds in the operation sound of a target apparatus.

  • Sound acquisition unit captures the operation sound of the target apparatus as a time signal reflecting the intensity of sound pressure signals.
  • Signal transform unit converts the time signal into a frequency characteristic representing the intensity of sound pressure signals at different frequencies.
  • Abnormal sound emphasis unit analyzes the frequency characteristic to emphasize the intensity of sound pressure signals at frequencies associated with abnormal sounds.
  • Abnormal sound determination unit assesses whether abnormal sounds are present in the operation sound based on the emphasized signal.

Potential Applications: - Industrial machinery monitoring - Automotive engine diagnostics - Home appliance fault detection

Problems Solved: - Early detection of abnormal sounds in machinery - Preventive maintenance based on sound analysis

Benefits: - Improved equipment reliability - Cost savings through timely repairs - Enhanced safety in industrial settings

Commercial Applications: Title: "Advanced Abnormal Sound Detection Device for Industrial Machinery" This technology can be utilized in various industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and aerospace for proactive maintenance and quality control purposes.

Questions about Abnormal Sound Detection Device: 1. How does the device differentiate between normal and abnormal sounds? The device uses frequency analysis to identify abnormal sound patterns that deviate from the norm. 2. Can this technology be integrated into existing machinery easily? Yes, the device can be retrofitted onto different types of machinery for sound monitoring and analysis.

Original Abstract Submitted

An abnormal sound detection device includes: a sound acquisition unit that obtains operation sound of a target apparatus as a sound pressure time signal that is a time signal indicative of a time variation in intensity of sound pressure signals; a signal transform unit that transforms the sound pressure time signal to a frequency characteristic indicative of intensity of the sound pressure signals at respective frequencies; an abnormal sound emphasis unit that obtains, based on the frequency characteristic, an abnormal sound emphasized signal obtained by emphasizing intensity of a sound pressure signal at a frequency in association with the abnormal sound of the target apparatus; and an abnormal sound determination unit that determines whether the abnormal sound is included in the operation sound based on the abnormal sound emphasized signal.
