TRANSMISSION LINE ARRANGEMENT FOR A PASSIVE COMPONENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18596695 titled 'TRANSMISSION LINE ARRANGEMENT FOR A PASSIVE COMPONENT

The passive component described in the abstract consists of four ports arranged on two perpendicular axes, with each port connected to the others through transmission lines following a symmetrical meandering path.

  • The component includes a first port and a second port on one axis, and a third port and a fourth port on another axis perpendicular to the first.
  • Four transmission lines connect each port to the others, with each line following a meandering path of equal length.
  • The symmetrical design of the transmission line arrangement ensures balance and uniformity in signal transmission.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in RF and microwave systems for signal routing and distribution. - It can also be applied in antenna systems for impedance matching and signal processing.

Problems Solved: - Provides a compact and efficient solution for signal routing in complex systems. - Ensures balanced signal distribution and minimizes signal loss.

Benefits: - Improved signal integrity and reduced signal loss. - Compact design suitable for integration into various electronic systems.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Symmetrical Transmission Line Component for Signal Routing in RF Systems" This technology can be utilized in telecommunications equipment, radar systems, and satellite communication devices for enhanced signal processing and distribution.

Questions about Symmetrical Transmission Line Component: 1. How does the symmetrical design of the transmission lines contribute to signal integrity? 2. What are the key advantages of using a meandering path for transmission lines in this component?

Original Abstract Submitted

A passive component comprising a first port and a second port, wherein the first and second ports are provided on a first axis, a third port and a fourth port, wherein the third and fourth ports are provided on a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, and a transmission line arrangement comprising four transmission lines, wherein the first port and the second port are each coupled to both the third port and the fourth port by respective transmission lines of the transmission line arrangement, wherein each transmission line follows a meandering path and each transmission line has the same length, such that the transmission line arrangement is symmetrical about at least one axis of symmetry.
