A radio access network element includes at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the radio access network element to: generate a carrier aggregation configuration for a user equipment based on capability information from the user equipment, the capability information including at least supported maximum channel bandwidth information and supported minimum channel bandwidth information for each band within a band combination; and send the carrier aggregation configuration to the user equipment to configure the user equipment for communication with the radio access network element.
