REFRIGERATOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18591716 titled 'REFRIGERATOR

Simplified Explanation:

This patent application describes a refrigerator with a damping device that provides a controlled closing motion for the door.

  • The refrigerator includes a cabinet with a storage space and a door that opens and closes the storage space.
  • A hinge connects the door to the cabinet, allowing it to rotate.
  • A damping device is mounted on one side of the hinge, providing a damping force when the door closes.
  • The damping device consists of an oil damper, which controls the door's closing speed.
  • A contact surface on the door interacts with the damping device to transmit the damping force at a specific angle.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Damping device with an oil damper for controlled door closing.
  • Contact surface on the door for precise damping force transmission.
  • Hinge design for smooth door rotation.

Potential Applications:

This technology can be applied to various types of refrigerators and other appliances with doors that need controlled closing mechanisms.

Problems Solved:

This technology addresses the issue of doors slamming shut in refrigerators, which can cause noise and potential damage.

Benefits:

  • Quieter operation of the refrigerator.
  • Protection against damage from slamming doors.
  • Improved user experience with controlled door closing.

Commercial Applications:

Potential commercial applications include refrigerators for residential and commercial use, as well as other appliances with doors that require controlled closing mechanisms.

Questions about Refrigerator Damping Device:

1. How does the damping device in this refrigerator work? 2. What are the benefits of having a controlled closing mechanism in a refrigerator door?

Original Abstract Submitted

A refrigerator includes a cabinet which has a storage space; a door which opens and closes the storage space; a hinge which connects the door and the cabinet and supports the door so that the door is capable of rotating; and a damping device which is provided on one side where the hinge is mounted and provides a damping force to the door when the door rotates in a closing direction, in which the damping device consists of an oil damper, and a contact surface is formed on one side corresponding to the damping device, with which the door starts to be in contact and thus to which a damping force is transmitted, at a set angle or less, and which is separated from the damping device when the door is opened.
