GAS RECOVERY SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18589553 titled 'GAS RECOVERY SYSTEM

The gas recovery system described in the patent application separates a gas to be recovered from a mixed gas using an electrochemical reaction within an electrochemical cell housed in a specific configuration.

  • The system includes at least one electrochemical cell with a working electrode and a counter electrode.
  • The housing of the system comprises a gas inflow section for the mixed gas to enter and a gas outflow section for the separated gas to exit.
  • Applying a voltage between the working electrode and the counter electrode causes the working electrode to adsorb the gas to be recovered from the mixed gas.
  • The gas inflow section is designed with a decreasing opening area towards the downstream side to facilitate the flow of the mixed gas towards the gas outflow section.

Potential Applications: - Industrial gas separation processes - Environmental gas emission control - Gas recovery in chemical production facilities

Problems Solved: - Efficient separation of specific gases from mixed gas streams - Reduction of gas emissions and environmental impact - Improved gas recovery processes in various industries

Benefits: - Enhanced gas recovery efficiency - Reduced environmental pollution - Cost-effective gas separation technology

Commercial Applications: Title: Gas Recovery System for Industrial Applications This technology can be utilized in industries such as chemical manufacturing, oil and gas production, and environmental monitoring for efficient gas recovery and emission control.

Questions about Gas Recovery Systems: 1. How does the electrochemical reaction in the system facilitate gas separation? The electrochemical reaction causes the working electrode to adsorb the gas to be recovered from the mixed gas, enabling efficient separation.

2. What are the potential environmental benefits of implementing this gas recovery system? Implementing this system can lead to reduced gas emissions, contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Original Abstract Submitted

A gas recovery system, which separates a gas to be recovered from a mixed gas by an electrochemical reaction, includes at least one electrochemical cell and a housing. The electrochemical cell has a working electrode and a counter electrode. The housing includes a gas inflow section that allows the mixed gas to flow inside the housing and a gas outflow section that allows the mixed gas to flow out from the inside of the housing. When a voltage is applied between the working electrode and the counter electrode, the working electrode adsorbs the gas to be recovered contained in the mixed gas. The gas inflow section has a shape in which an opening area decreases toward a downstream side in a gas flow direction in which the mixed gas flows from the gas inflow section toward the gas outflow section.
