FLIGHT PATH REPORTING ENHANCEMENTS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18589020 titled 'FLIGHT PATH REPORTING ENHANCEMENTS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications involving aerial user equipments (AUEs) providing flightpath information to the network. The network can manage communications resources for the AUE based on the time and uncertainty associated with each geographic location along the flightpath.

  • AUEs indicate flightpath information to the network.
  • Network entities can request flightpath reports with expected geographic locations and associated timestamps and uncertainty values.
  • The network manages communications resources for AUEs based on the time and uncertainty at each indicated point along the flightpath.
  • AUEs can report relevant portions of the flightpath based on network entity filters.
  • AUEs may use algebraic expressions to reduce data when reporting the flightpath.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Wireless communications involving AUEs providing flightpath information.

Commercial Applications

Potential Commercial Uses and Market Implications

The technology could be utilized in air traffic control systems, drone delivery services, and emergency response coordination. It has the potential to improve efficiency and accuracy in these industries, leading to enhanced safety and operational effectiveness.

Questions about Wireless Communications

How does the network manage communications resources for AUEs based on flightpath information?

The network uses the expected geographic locations, timestamps, and uncertainty values provided by AUEs to allocate resources efficiently along the flightpath.

What are the potential applications of using algebraic expressions to report flightpath information?

Algebraic expressions can reduce the amount of data transmitted, making it more efficient for AUEs to report their flightpaths to the network.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Aerial user equipments (AUEs) may indicate flightpath information to the network (e.g., to a serving network entity). A network entity may request a flightpath report, which may include a sequence of expected geographic locations. An AUE may include estimated timestamps and uncertainty values associated with each timestamp with the flightpath report. Accordingly, the network may manage communications resources for the AUE accounting for the time and associated uncertainty that the AUE will be at each indicated point along the flightpath. A network entity may indicate a filter to apply to the flightpath report, and accordingly the AUE may report the portion of the flightpath that is relevant to the given network entity. The AUE may report the flightpath using an algebraic expression to reduce the amount of data as compared to a flightpath report that includes a set of waypoints.
