ACCESS POINT (AP)-ASSISTED AP TRANSITION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18587772 titled 'ACCESS POINT (AP)-ASSISTED AP TRANSITION

The abstract describes a method for AP-assisted AP transition in a wireless network, where a station (STA) can smoothly transition from one access point (AP) to another.

  • AP-assisted AP transition allows for seamless handover of a STA from one AP to another.
  • The method involves the transmission of a control signal with a sequence number (SN) maintenance indication from the STA to the second AP.
  • The second AP responds with a downlink transmission including the next SN, ensuring continuity in data transmission.
  • This innovation aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of AP transitions in wireless networks.
  • By maintaining SN continuity, the method enhances the overall performance of the network during handovers.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems to facilitate seamless AP transitions. - It can be beneficial in scenarios where uninterrupted connectivity is crucial, such as in IoT devices or real-time communication applications.

Problems Solved: - Addresses the issue of potential data loss or disruption during AP transitions. - Improves the overall user experience by ensuring smooth handovers between APs.

Benefits: - Enhanced reliability and efficiency in wireless networks. - Seamless transition for connected devices without interruptions in data transmission.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhancing Wireless Network Efficiency with AP-Assisted AP Transition" This technology can be utilized in industries such as telecommunications, smart home devices, and industrial IoT for improved network performance and seamless connectivity.

Questions about AP-Assisted AP Transition: 1. How does AP-assisted AP transition differ from traditional handover methods? - AP-assisted AP transition involves the transmission of a control signal with SN maintenance indications, ensuring continuity in data transmission during handovers. 2. What are the key benefits of utilizing AP-assisted AP transition in wireless networks? - The main benefits include improved reliability, efficiency, and seamless connectivity for connected devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

Some embodiments include an apparatus, method, and computer program product for access point (AP)-assisted AP transition. Using AP-assisted AP transitions, when the STA is associated with a first access point (AP) and is transitioning to a second AP, a station (STA) can transmit to the second AP a control signal including a first indication for sequence number (SN) maintenance. The STA can receive from the second AP responsive to the first indication for SN maintenance, a first downlink (DL) transmission including a next SN. The next SN can be a continuation of an SN sequence utilized by the first AP for one or more previous DL transmissions.
