An image forming apparatus determines the type of paper on the basis of the feature value (the basis weight, the surface property, and the like) of the paper detected by the media sensor and sets, as information to be registered in a paper database, a print control parameter for the paper on the basis of the detected type of paper. The image forming apparatus further sets a print control parameter for paper on which an adjustment chart is printed on the basis of the adjustment chart detected by an image reading unit.
